During a recent visit to Bogota's botanical garden at the west of the city, I took several pictures from which I want to share a sample in this blog. The first one is this view that combines vertical structures made by man with those natural made represented by the palm trees. Altough palm trees are related with hot tropical climates, the ones showed here grow at 2650 m, in a cold climate, but they are still tropical.Sergio Sandoval Arenashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11298556513073650494noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-382845428898312536.post-19403744944572870562012-11-16T12:39:00.000-08:002012-11-16T12:48:10.051-08:00Leaving at sunset

Sin embargo, las construciones que llegaron despues los eliminaron por completo. Es tal vez por esa idiosincracia Bogotana de estar de puertas adentro, la que muchos explican por el clima frio.
With more than 100 hectares this park was open officially to the public in 1991 after planting more than 3.300 native trees. In 1995 was recovered a 11 hectares lake. Inside the park there's a place for events like concerts with a capacity for nearly 80.000 people. The last concert there was Aerosmith, last month. This park is just one part of a bigger complex of parks in the area know as the Simon Bolivar Metropolitan Park, covering a total area of nearly 400 hectares.Sergio Sandoval Arenashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11298556513073650494noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-382845428898312536.post-61659835025567627862010-06-15T10:25:00.000-07:002010-06-15T11:07:43.445-07:00A National Amulet<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikrvwn6aRiSnMp0vXeCHd1rTkUPu8PLi7Bnugrbm8-ZhKbJyTYZDXuaTt655MygKwBCSkppLEbtkQtHSAvwkw5mO4OEMu80HEdITVbAN46MtuYgEKME27PnQ4aZlFz6PRyn9lD9m2l5NO9/s400/VotoSunset.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5483063731783813218" />
Innocently I took this picture of a sunset in Bogota with out knowing a history behind it. I got interested on the image of the church at the right, because I didn’t know the name of the church that appeared in the picture. I finally found the name of this church which is the Minor Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Basilica Menor del Sagrado Corazón de Jesus) but is more popularly know as the National Vote Church. The history behind this church has to deal with part of the history of the country. It was constructed as a request from an archbishop to the politics of the early twenty century. The construction of the church was considered as a kind of amulet to finish a stupid war in Colombia, known as the War of the One Thousand Days (1899-1902). As all the wars it was a useless conflict between the two principal parties of the country in the struggle for the power. One of the consequences of that war was that Colombia lost Panama and the possibility of constructing the interoceanic canal.Sergio Sandoval Arenashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11298556513073650494noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-382845428898312536.post-40320714787069416272009-07-11T22:12:00.001-07:002011-10-09T07:38:24.198-07:00Blue Sunset<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh91g7NtAG7TYylu9kzC5e8XUpeL9acTwerWoXH9LbrW9VLOjlWdmRgNQsXUqCVv8vzDSjzVawD133NzTBKVFNTYazbnDtpoTN9NIq_d7cg4b5EqnDIY4kJMzyGmrjfmu58Jyx_NY3ivTOU/s800/bluess.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357437599611652818" />
I just took this one while driving. Some new teams from the city appearing in the last years had been more successful than the traditional ones.Sergio Sandoval Arenashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11298556513073650494noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-382845428898312536.post-10832676149730782552009-06-24T13:36:00.001-07:002011-10-09T07:48:04.885-07:00Eating the forest<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 450px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkHfbLYaV5PDE7NNrjaxtyPnZrElW-dUeM4I1C2_z93FVvTJGlQoLJeVG8vN0P4wJ9In6RNP7wIjALjkpCkVvMCLhZz5D6S7TuYlAXwcORJAM29LqR4zprkwBnLCcVhCA_H7Vm89fXKovT/s800/Dsc00956.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350996076746462754" />
Bogota is lucky for being surrounded by forested hills. However legal and illegal urbanization has been eating the remaining forests around the city. In any case the native forest is almost absent from the city. The picture shows a popular neighborhood at the southeast of the city.Sergio Sandoval Arenashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11298556513073650494noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-382845428898312536.post-74980870243382805472009-06-17T07:06:00.000-07:002011-10-09T07:49:35.120-07:00On the park<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 450px; height: 305px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKKWUjC9LY27dGHkiLpClmfu2jfcNNfFoiQ9vrMBqLcLae99aDCm5kW8e29-linklrYViQNVz5QhhZNnbCnqV6EyUiRfS4IbO4VxflnYGOhdDLurW0YxZjYtTFfqx3MQ3aRXbwfIebJWdm/s800/onthepark.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348298091040112434" />
Maybe one of the more interesting things of Bogotá is that there are a lot of things to do in your free time. Between them are the parks where you can practice sports or simply take a rest in the grass or get fun in entertainment attractions like the panoramic wheel in the back.Sergio Sandoval Arenashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11298556513073650494noreply@blogger.com1
